Four Entrepreneurs That Inspired Me

If you are new to startups or exploring the possibility of a startup, here are four sntrepreneurs you should be following. I know some of you already know of them, but I did not know any of them two years ago. Of course this is in addition to some well known entrepreneurs such as Mark Cuban and Sir Richard Branson, that you should already be following.

Jason Calacanis – Jason comes first on the list because I learned of the others through his show, This Week In Startups (TWIST).  Jason was one of the early internet entrepreneurs that sold Weblogs, Inc. to AOL and then worked for Netscape and Sequoia Capital and founded Mahalo.  Jason is also an angel investor and has an investment syndicate can see on Angel.co. Like all the guys listed here, Jason just really wants to help entrepreneurs – it is so obvious.  His show, This Week In Startups, is still going strong every week and is definitely worth listening to the many episodes found on You Tube.

Chris Sacca
– Chris was a mathematical genius when he was younger (probably still is) and excelled in school. He went to Georgetown Law School and day traded stocks while he was there. That was going very well until he ran into some bad luck and winded up owing 4 million dollars! He scrapped his way out of debt, doing whatever he had to do, including forming “The Salinger Group” to help raise funds and climb out of debt, which he was able to do.  Sacca also worked early on at Google and was an early investor in Twitter.  Watch his TWIST episode – it is a classic!  He is owner of Lowercase Capital, investing in startup companies.  He will also be a guest Shark on Shark Tank this season, so if you don’t know him yet, you will.

Gary Vaynerchuk

AKA “GaryVee”, is a NY Times best selling author, entrepreneur, media marketing guru, angel investor, and keynote speaker. And maybe one day, the proud owner of the NY Jets.  I first heard of this guy from TWIST.   He knows his stuff, and he is right about the things he talks about.  His enthusiasm is very contagious, and he will inspire you.  I found myself searching for and watching anything I could find on him speaking.  He was best known for his wine show on You Tube and for growing his family’s wine business from a 3 million business to a 60 million dollar business in just 5 years. He has authored 3 very interesting books and has been a keynote speaker many times over. He also started Vayner Media with his brother and that company continues to grow. Just check out You Tube to hear Gary speak on topics that matter to entrepreneurs. Or catch The Ask GaryVeeshow online. Warning: there is usually a bit of language in Gary’s speeches, so be careful who’s around when you watch the videos, but you really want to hear what he has to say, trust me.  You definitely need to follow this guy.

Tim Ferriss – I know the least about Tim because I have not been following him as long as the others mentioned here, but he is really a unique person.  Princeton educated, Tim is also an angel investor, entrepreneur, public speaker, and author of books including “The Four Hour Work Week.”  He has also been on TWIST and has his own show as well.  From cooking to working out to building businesses, Tim seems to have experience with all of these things.  Definitely an interesting guy.  Like I said, I am not as familiar with him as the others, but I include him on this list before what I have heard or read so far makes me think I need to continue to read more of stuff he puts out.

This is by no means the only list of interesting and inspiring entrepreneurs out there.  But these are the four that right now are inspiring me the most.  Who are some of the entrepreneurs that inspire you? Please comment below.
