First 20 miler for MCM completed

On 9/6/15 I ran the first of three 20+ mile runs as part of my marathon training.  The day before I had some soreness in my ankle, as well as the Achilles area in the other leg. I’ve dealt with the latter off and on since May.

So I iced, rolled, and took Advil the day before. My goal was to go at an easy pace and finish in about 3.5 hours.

The run went well overall, with the same pains manifesting but mild and bearable. These things probably won’t go away until I finish the marathon and dial back the miles.

I finished just under 3.5 hours with about a  5 minute refuel after the first 13.  Soreness was increased afterwards but I iced and rolled again.  I also took 3 days off this week and ran 4 miles Thursday.

I did notice something about my Newton Aha shoes. They totally lack arch support -completely. So in one foot, I know I really need some arch support. Not a lot of support is needed but more than I get now, especially on runs greater than 10 miles.  The shoe that is like mine but with arch support are the Newton Energy NR II, which I will get a pair and review. I think they will be just what I need.

Up next is the Bird In Hand Half Marathon this Saturday, as in tomorrow. I will report/review the race afterwards.
