The Wishmay Site — Impressions So Far

It’s been several months now since we launched the Wishmay site, a branch of LivestockCity where people post things they want to buy. Nothing on the site is actually for sale, but viewers browse the items and sell to the buyers. The site launched on Black Friday in 2020, although we hadn’t even completed the Stripe payments integration at the time. That integration was finally completed towards the end of February, and that’s when we got a little more aggressive on advertising. We’ve been seeing consistent visitation to the site even when not talking about the site on social media. Right now there’s around 20 items posted, and we’re expecting an increase by the end of the year to several hundred items. We just began working on mobile apps for the site and those should also be available later in 2021.

The results so far have been interesting. I guess I was expecting smart phones, electronics, and common sporting goods, etc. to be posted, and there is some of that, but a lot of the items are actually hard to find. Some examples are an old sewing machine, a waste basket from Bed, Bath, and Beyond that’s no longer sold, a Minnie Mouse pillow case from the 80’s and so on. And the buyers are willing to pay handsomely for these items if someone has them. It’s been really interesting to see.

We have a prediction about what may begin to happen soon. There will be individuals we call “hunters” that won’t have the actual items wanted but will go and find these items to sell to the buyer. There are people around that are very good at finding things and Wishmay could be a lucrative site for them.

The second application of Wishmay will be as a yard sale companion. In recent years, Gary Vaynerchuk made it popular to pick up items at yard sales and sell for profit on EBay or Amazon. We see Wishmay as a tool for this by browsing the site before hitting yard sales. And once there’s too many items to browse at one time, our search tool works great to search by keywords. One could find an item at the yard sale, already know what the buyer wants to pay, and purchase from the yard sale accordingly to sell to the buyer. The buyer is just an offer post away.

It’s been great to see people discover and post to the Wishmay site and with apps on the way and other features planned, it’s just going to keep getting better.
