My Grades for My 2023 Goals — How Did I Do and What About 2024?

Last January I stated several goals for the year.  So a year later, let’s see how I actually did.    2023 Report   2023 Running Grade: D- I stated in 2023 a goal of running one half marathon and 500+ miles for the year.   I never ran a half marathon in 2023.  And didn’t come anywhere near the 500 mile goal, so a D- is being generous.   I will

My Experience Running Through Injuries – When Is It Okay and Not Okay to Run

This article is based on my own personal experiences, and the reader may or may not have a similar experience. I am just telling my story. 2017 Chicago Marathon Report/Review

I’m finally getting around to writing my race report on Chicago Marathon 2017.  Lately I’ve been so busy with my team at LivestockCIty, but that’s another post for another time.   My original plan was to try to get into NYC Marathon for 2017 until I heard it would be the 40th Anniversary at Chicago, AND Chicago moved their deadline up to be before NYC’s (I wish they would move

Headphones Review – Bose Soundsport Wireless Headphones

UPDATE 9/18/17:  Unfortunately the second pair of headphones also resulted in death by sweat.  I’m now on my second replacement set, third pair total.  Based on the unreliability thus far, I had to change my rating of these headphones to 2.75 out of 5 stars.    I usually listen to music when I run, especially on longer runs.  I had a pair of wireless headphones that were about $40 and

Overcoming the Mentor Barriers In Running

Running is as much of a mental game as it is a physical one. If you are not trained mentally as well as physically for a race or event, you might be in trouble. Our minds can fool us into thinking we are getting tired, we are not running that fast, there’s a pain developing in our leg, we need to stop and walk, we need to slow down, we

Marine Corps Marathon – OORAH! Mission Accomplished! Race Review

Last year I ran the Chicago Marathon, and that was my first one.  I think at that time, I thought maybe that would be the only one I’d do.  That distance is not a walk in the park.  But, as the months went on, I began thinking I might want to try another one.  And so here we are, talking about marathon #2, the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) in Washington,

The Second 20 Mile Run

Last Sunday I had the second big training run, and I planned to experiment with hydrating and fueling to see if I could rid the problem of nausea in the late miles that I experienced last year and a little bit on this year’s first 20 miler. Earlier in the week I was reading some articles about hydrating during long runs.  Usually there are two schools of advice. The first

MCM Training Update

The anticipation is building for the Marine Corps Marathon in October. I am now in the high intensity months where there are lots of runs and longer distances to cover.  This is only the second marathon I have ever done, so I am still not that used to distances 15 miles and over. This time last year, I was training for the Chicago Marathon, and I was dealing with a

A new look for the blog and update on Running.

It was time for a change.  I was getting so tired of the look of this site, so here is something new and exciting!  I have also been a slacker in regularly writing more frequently, so I am going to try to change this as well.   I have lots to cover. In the next fews posts, I will blog about some new running shoes I am using, upcoming races

Chicago is in the books!

I did it! The positive result of endless perseverance and determination finally came as I crossed the finish line at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.  It has been quite a journey to reach this summit.  My story follows. In 2013, I was going full force, running about 750 miles total for the year – more than double what I did in 2012.  I had completed 3 half marathons, all
