This was my longest run since my injury, and I ran in the Altra’s. My calf muscles were not terribly sore prior to the race. The day before I was giving some deworming shots to some llamas, and one of the llamas managed to ram my bad knee right into a fence post! Ouch! That had me concerned about running a 5K the next morning, Luckily it did not seem to effect my leg, although I do feel pain if I press in the area that got hit.
The race was not chip timed and there were about 50+ runners there. I had no idea if the course would be flat or hilly, but it turned out to be hilly. I went uphill pretty fast and slow on downhills, although maybe not slow enough. My mile splits were 8:46, 9:00, and 8:35, respectively. I think unofficial time was 27:10. I was happy with that. As far as knee pain, I don’t think I really felt anything, although at one point I thought it felt a little odd. I might have just imagined it because nothing hurt afterwards, except for sore calf muscles.
Overall, I was happy with this run and got a confidence boost from it. I might try a 10K on May.
