On the Road to Recovery, Again.

It has been over a week since my last run of 7.75 miles. On that run, I had to walk the last couple miles due to ankle and knee pain. As a reminder, I injured my left ankle, which I believe is causing my right knee also to hurt because my right leg is working to compensate for the left ankle.

Chicago is 7 weeks away. The Navy-AF Force Half marathon is 3 weeks away.  But unfortunately I am in a situation where good decisions are crucial because bad decisions could mean I’ll be in an even worse position.

So far….

I had a 60 minute therapeutic massage on my legs to relieve muscle tightness.  And even though I was skeptical and unsure, I decided to try a chiropractor and give them the benefit of the doubt.  After one visit, I feel like it might have helped some.  I am going back for a couple visits and we’ll see what happens.

I wanted to try this approach before jumping right into a cortisone shot.  I feel like cortisone is my last resort option and could probably get me to Chicago.  But cortisone should be used sparingly, so I am waiting on that option .

These things address the knee, but what about the ankle pain? The ankle is what’s keeping me from testing out my knee right now.  It is just beginning to feel good walking on it, so hopefully in a couple more days I can run a short distance and see how things are. It has taken a week to feel good, so a few more days of rest is better than rushing out for a run and missing another week.
